About

KTomlinsonI am a second year PhD student, working to generate and exploit an improved understanding of cassava brown streak disease (CBSD) to ensure sustainable cassava production in Africa. My work involves the analysis of infectious clones of cassava brown streak virus to understand gene function.

I am part of the Molecular Plant Pathology group at the University of Bristol, under the supervision of Prof. Gary Foster and Dr. Andy Bailey.

As part of my PhD programme (BBSRC SWDTP), I have chosen to complete my three-month PIPS internship with the National Crops Resources Research Institute, in Uganda where I’ll be assisting with their communications team and learning how to do CBSD field work.

I’ll be blogging my experiences here and for the Cabot Institute blog, so watch this space!

I would like to thank my funders: Biotechnology and Biosciences Research Council, the Cabot Institute (University of Bristol), the British Society for Plant Pathology and the Society for Experimental Biology – Company for Biologists for supporting my internship.
